Carolina Aleixo is a newly graduated doctor aiming to start her career in Radiology in Berlin. She grew up bilingually, with her two mother tongues being Portuguese and German. 
In 2022 she completed her medical studies in Prague and started to work on her doctoral thesis at Charité University Hospital in Berlin. Because of her interest in musculoskeletal radiology, she is conducting research on mechanical diseases of the sacroiliac joints and on possible aetiologies of this entity. For this purpose, she is evaluating pelvic X-ray images with suspected hip dysplasia in patients with mechanical and inflammatory diseases of the sacroiliac joints. 
She hopes to complete her thesis in the upcoming year and looks forward to future research projects with the rheumatogical radiology group at Charité.

She is an Adjunct Professor of MSK Radiology at Universidade Federal Fluminense and a practicing radiologist of DASA group, currently working at Clínica de Diagnóstico por Imagem and ALTA Excelência Diagnóstica. She graduated with a degree in medicine from Universidade Gama Filho, completed a musculoskeletal fellowship at CHRU, Lille, France, a research fellowship at the University of California, San Diego and a PhD at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She is very involved in MSK research having authored and co-authored original research and book chapters. She is also very active in MSK education as she has presented in several Brazilian and International Conferences. She is a member of several radiology societies in Brazil and a member of the International Skeletal Society, being nominated as the chairman of its Outreach Program. 
 

Dr Cláudia Fontan is a practing musculoskeletal and skin radiolgist in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. She graduated with a degree in medicine from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and completed her residency at the Hospital da Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Permanbuco. She is a member of Colégio Brasileiro de Radiologia, Sociedade Brasileira de Ultrassonografia, Sociedade Brasileira de Ultrassonografia Dermatológica and she is executive director of Radiology Society of Pernambuco. Dr. Fontan also regulary publishes educative cases on instagram (@claudiafontanradiologia)

Dr. Aline Serfaty is a practicing musculoskeletal radiologist and medical director at MedscanLagos, in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since December 2020, she is the president of the Radiology Society of Rio de Janeiro. She graduated with a degree in medicine from the Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and completed her residency at the Universidade Federal Fluminense. She is on the advisory board at Medscape and is a member of several radiology societies in Brazil as well as the International Skeletal Society. She has authored and co-authored original research and book chapters in musculoskeletal radiology and presented at national and international conferences. Since 2019 she is one of the coordinators of the Musculoskeletal Imaging Group of Rio de Janeiro that promotes education and partnership among Brazilian radiologists. In 2021, she received her PhD from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro with a thesis on imaging in axial spondyloarthritis.

Dr. Serfaty also regularly publishes educative cases on Instagram.

Audrey Iulia Apostol is a practicing rheumatologist based in Bucharest, Romania. She graduated from the Carol Davila Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bucharest and began her training as a rheumatologist in 2009, completing her residency in 2014. She worked as a rheumatologist at Regina Maria and Medas hospitals. Currently, she holds positions at Memormed Medical Center and also part-time at Sanador Hospital. Her profound interest in rheumatologic imaging runs throughout her career as a specialized physician.

Dr. Bielecki is an academic diagnostic radiologist with over 30 years of experience in bone and joint radiology. He has published many papers and lectures regularly. He teaches radiographic interpretation in the UK, Poland, and Israel and high-volume plain film interpretation with a strong interest in bone diseases, crystal deposition diseases inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the joints and spine.  He lectures regularly and has published 26 papers and helped develop  20 electronic educational presentations at major radiology meetings. He uses structured VR to speed up report writing, thus, reporting up to 200 cases daily. 

Dr. Fabio Macori is a consultant radiologist in Santo Spirito hospital, Rome, Italy, with a focus on thoracic imaging. After his medical studies he began training as a radiology specialist in Rome. His initial focus was on vascular radiology and intervention and he was a senior consultant in the Italian public health service, responsible for CT of the vessels and musculoskeletal radiology. In 2018 Dr. Macori moved to Ireland to specialize in the field of thoracic radiology. He is an active member of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging, the Irish Medical Council and both the Italian and European Radiological Societies.

Dr. Juliane Greese works as a resident radiologist in her last year of training at the Charité Berlin. She completed her medical studies in Berlin and Lisbon. Already during this time, her interest in rheumatological imaging was triggered by the work on her doctoral thesis on the topic of spondyloarthritides.
In this context, she evaluated the X-ray, CT, and MRI imaging of more than 100 patients with suspected axial spondyloarthritis. An additional eight months of clinical training in the field of rheumatology gave her a clinical perspective on the subject in addition to the radiological one.

Dr. Katharina Ziegeler is a board-certified radiologist at the department of radiology at Charité Berlin, where she completed her medical studies in 2015. Already during her undergraduate training, she discovered her passion for medical education as a tutor for practical medical skills in the learning center of Charité. 
Scientifically, she began her work with analyses of CT imaging for chondrocalcinosis/CPPD and completed her doctorate on this topic. Subsequently, she published a series of scientific articles on imaging in rheumatic diseases. Her current focus of research is in the field of the axial skeleton, for which she was able to obtain a research grant from the ASAS international society in 2020/2021.

Dr. Milen Golchev is a board-certified radiologist. He completed his medical studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, Germany, in 2010. He received his residency training at one of the largest municipal hospitals in Germany, the DO Clinic, where his interest in musculoskeletal radiology was further strengthened. His enthusiasm for digital media has guided him since his high school years, culminating in a doctoral thesis on the evaluation of a web-based information system in radiology at the Ruprechts-Karls University in Heidelberg, Germany. Alongside his job, he was able to complete his studies for a Master Of Health Business Administration at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 2016. After professional development up to the medical director of a regional MVZ location in Münsterland, he decided to focus his enthusiasm for MSK radiology as part of the DGMSR societies expert program at the Department of Radiology at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. 

Dr. Roar Pedersen is head of MSK radiology at Unilabs Norway, a provider of outpatient radiology at 12 locations in Norway. He is also one of the Norwegian Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology founders and an experienced lecturer in radiology and MSK topics for the last 15 years. He serves as a member of the ESSR Sports Committee and team leader of the MSK section of the European Diploma in Radiology. He has a particular interest in hip, knee, and ankle imaging and cooperates with several sports clinics to provide high-quality reports and radiological care. He has a keen interest in quality improvement and efficiency and has studied and worked with several models for improving quality in radiological reports.

Wolfgang Fischer is a practising musculoskeletal radiologist. He studied medicine at the Universities of Heidelberg (Germany), Geneva (Switzerland) and Montpellier (France). From 1992 to 2008, he worked in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology at Augsburg municipal hospital (Germany). During his radiology training, he focused on musculoskeletal imaging and worked in several specialized departments. He was a visiting scholar at the University of California San Francisco in 1999. Since 2008 he has been working in a highly specialized MRI department in an orthopedic hospital.

He is the co-author of several books and co-editor of a standard textbook on musculoskeletal radiology. Dr. Fischer has gained popularity as a speaker at conferences and MRI courses. He is an active member of the DRG, DGMSR, ESSR and ISS. In 2018 he received the Eugenie-und-Felix-Wachsmann award for merits in radiologic education (awarded by the German radiological society).

He also published the App MRI-ESSENTIALS on musculoskeletal radiology, which is regularly updated.

Dr. Alessandro Amorim Aita is a radiologist with oncology and musculoskeletal subspecialty in São Paulo, Brazil, and his base in Teresina, Piauí State, Brazil. He obtained his medical degree from the State University of Piauí in 2000, and completed his residency at the Hospital do Câncer A. C . Camargo in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2004. He was part of the radiology team at Sarah Kubistchek Hospital in Brasília from 2005 to 2015. After several courses in musculoskeletal radiology in Brazil and the U.S., he also completed studies in business management with a focus on strategy from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, graduating with an MBA. Dr. Aita is a member of several societies of radiology in Brazil, the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the International Stress Management Association (ISMA). He is also appointed assistant professor at the Universidade Catolica de Brasília and executive coordinator of TeleHealth HU Ebserh as well as supervisor of the radiology residency program.

Dr. Francisco Abaeté das Chagas-Neto is an associate professor of musculoskeletal Radiology at Christus University Center, in Fortaleza/CE, northeast Brazil. He completed residency, his musculoskeletal fellowship as well as his doctoral degree at Ribeirão Preto Medical School University of SP. He is the section head of musculoskeletal imaging and director of the MSK fellowship program at Antonio Prudente Hospital in Fortaleza. He is also very involved in musculoskeletal radiology education having presented at radiologic national and international conferences. He is interested in all areas of MSK imaging and intervention, with emphasis on Sports Medicine. He is also a member of the International Skeletal Society.

Haoyin Cao, M.Sc., works in radiology at the Charité Berlin after studying medicine at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and completing her doctorate at the Charité Berlin. In addition, she went to the USA at Johns-Hopkins University Baltimore and to China at Fudan University and Tongji University Shanghai to get research training and clinical internship. She holds a master's degree in psychology from the University of Munich. She has won “the brightest minds in radiology” as a grant from the German X-Ray Society.

Jan Fritz, MD, is a musculoskeletal radiologist and Professor of Radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York City. He serves as Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging and Enterprise Director of MRI at NYU Langone Health, where he focuses on advanced musculoskeletal MRI and patient-centred imaging.

He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Johns Hopkins University (2008–2012) followed by a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York (2012–2013). Originally trained in medicine in Germany (MD, 2004), he has since developed an international academic profile.

Professor Fritz’s research centers on advanced MRI techniques, metal artifact reduction, interventional and pain-related MRI procedures, imaging around orthopaedic implants, and quantitative musculoskeletal imaging. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is widely cited in the fields of musculoskeletal imaging and MRI technology.

Julio Brandão Guimarães, MD, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Federal University of Sao Paulo. He completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Musculoskeletal and Quantitative Imaging in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California San Francisco, USA, where he currently is an associate researcher. He is an active member of the Radiological Society of North America and the International Skeletal Society. Dr. Guimaraes authored and coauthored over 30 peer-reviewed articles. He is a reviewer for the journal Skeletal Radiology. His specific areas of research interest include hereditary and inflammatory myopathies and musculoskeletal oncology. He is involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows at the Federal University of Sao Paulo.

Kalliopi Melaki is a practicing radiologist in the Greater Berlin area, Germany. She completed her medical studies from 2009 to 2013 in Chania, Crete, Greece, where she also began her training as a radiologist. This was followed by work at the Evangelismos General Hospital in Athens and the General Hospital in Piraeus, Greece, before moving to the Charité in Berlin in 2019. She currently holds a position as a senior consultant at KMG Kliniken, a hospital group in Brandenburg, Germany.

Dr. Karina Todeschini is a practicing MSK Radiologist and Medical Director at Santa Monica Imagem. She graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Caxias do Sul with a fellowship in MSK diagnostic and interventional radiology at Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo (INRAD-USP) and a mini-fellowship at CHU, Lille, France. She is a member of several international and Brazilian radiology societies and an active participant in educational meetings in Brazil.

Dr. Marcelo Bordalo is the chief of Radiology at Aspetar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. He graduated with a degree in medicine, and completed a radiology residency, a musculoskeletal fellowship and a PhD at the University of São Paulo. He attended an observing fellowship at the MSK department of Universite Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) and a research fellowship at the Hospital for Joint Diseases (New York). He is a member of the ISS and is also responsible for the South America ISS Outreach Program. He is the book editor of the MSK volume of the latest Brazilian College of Radiology book series and has authored and co-authored several book chapters and more than 60 peer reviewed articles. 

Asif completed his secondary education in Kolkata, India, and subsequently moved to Germany to pursue a career in Medicine, currently enrolled at Charité Medical University in Berlin. In addition to his medical studies, he serves as a module representative, actively contributing to the enhancement of the modular curriculum at Charité. As an assistant scientist in Charité’s radiology department, he is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience for both students and residents. Furthermore, he initiated his doctoral research in the field of neurosurgery at Charité.

Niclas Doepner

Dr. Agten is an expert musculoskeletal radiologist with a focus on magnetic resonance imaging. 2013 he passed the Swiss radiology board exams “summa cum laude” and won the prize for the best exam in that year. After residency, he started focusing on research and did a clinical fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the University Hospital Balgrist in Zurich, Switzerland. He received personal grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Society of Radiology for a research stay at NYU in New York, USA, in 2015-2016. He received the Venia Legendi in musculoskeletal radiology from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, in 2019. He is co-founder and director of teleradiology at ARISTRA, a radiology start-up. In his MSK radiology-focused YouTube channel, he educates radiologists from all over the world in MSK radiology.

Dr. Torsten Diekhoff is an assistant professor and radiologist with a musculoskeletal focus, particularly in arthro and neuro sonography and interventions on the axial and peripheral skeleton. He obtained his Venia legendi at the Charité in Berlin, Germany, in 2019 with a thesis on "Dual-Energy Computed Tomography in Musculoskeletal Diagnostics." His research focuses on innovative imaging of the spine and joints including rheumatic and traumatic diseases. He was able to recruit a research grant from the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis international Society (ASAS) in 2014 and was honored with the Innovation Award of the German Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery in 2019.

Dr. Alexander Lembcke is a consultant radiologist at Charité, Berlin, Germany, specialized in cardiac imaging. After completing his medical studies, he began training as a radiology resident in Berlin in 1998, and his specialization in MRI and CT of the cardiovascular system began at that time. Very early, he also started his scientific career with numerous publications. In Boston, USA, at Massachusetts General Hospital, he spent a year as a research assistant in abdominal imaging. This was followed later by a year as a senior consultant in radiology at the Heart Center Leipzig, Germany. In 2011, he received the Venia Legendi. Dr. Lembcke then focused exclusively on cardiac computed tomography, concentrating on reducing radiation exposure and a minimal amount of contrast agents. He is an active member of the German Radiological Society and a reviewer for numerous international journals.

Denis Poddubnyy, MD, PhD, MSc (Epi), is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

In 2008, he completed his PhD thesis on cardiovascular pathology in ankylosing spondylitis. In 2013, he completed his postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation) focusing on the prediction and prevention of disease progression in early axial spondyloarthritis. He earned a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the Institute of Public Health in Berlin in 2016. That same year, he was appointed Professor and Head of Rheumatology at Campus Benjamin Franklin, Charité University Hospital in Berlin, Germany, and served as the leader of the "Spondyloarthritis" research group at the German Rheumatology Research Centre (DRFZ).

In July 2024, he was appointed to a full-time clinical academic position in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, with the rank of Professor, and as a Senior Scientist at the Schroeder Arthritis Institute of the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. He serves as Director of the Advanced Imaging Program, and Co-Director of both the Psoriatic Arthritis Program and the Clinical Trial Unit.

Since 2003, his research has focused on the early diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of patients with spondyloarthritis, including psoriatic arthritis. Dr. Poddubnyy is a member of the Executive Committee of the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS) and a member of the Steering Committee, as well as the Research and Publication Committees, of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). He also serves on the Research Committee of the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network (SPARTAN). He is the author of more than 300 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.

Dr. Joachim Sieper is a professor of rheumatology and has been head of Rheumatology at the Campus Benjamin Franklin of the Charité University Hospital in Berlin, Germany, until March 2016. He has a longstanding interest in the pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of spondyloarthritides with a focus on axial spondyloarthritis over the recent years. He was involved in several of the pivotal clinical studies showing the good efficacy of biologics in the treatment of axial spondyloarthritis. He is the recipient of the Carol-Nachman-Award for Rheumatology 2000 and of the EULAR Award 2003. He is a member of the editorial board of several international rheumatology journals and has published more than 500 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Hermann is a professor of radiology specialized in musculoskeletal imaging with a focus on arthritides. His research is dedicated mainly to the axial skeleton but the peripheral joints as well. The majority of his research projects are in the field of spondyloarthritis, where he is also connected with other researchers from Canada, UK, Germany, and Israel. He has also a strong track in applying innovative technology within medical education. He is an active member of ASAS, ESSR, DGMSR, and DRG and has won the Conrad Wilhelm Roentgen award in 2011, Felix Wachsmann award in 2014 and DVMB research prize in 2015. In 2019 he was promoted to associate professor.

Dr. Lennart Jans, MD, PhD, is a professor of radiology in Ghent, Belgium. He is the Head of the musculoskeletal imaging section of the department of radiology of Ghent University Hospital. He is also chair of the ESSR arthritis subcommittee and a member of ASAS and OMERACT. As a musculoskeletal radiologist, his main field of interest is in inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases, with a focus on spondyloarthritis. As a fellowship-trained pediatric radiologist at the children's hospitals in Liverpool and Melbourne, he has a special interest in juvenile arthritis. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 scientific papers, co-authored three books, and has given numerous invited lectures.

Dr. Eshed is a professor of radiology based in Israel, specialized in musculoskeletal imaging with a focus on arthritides. Dr. Eshed is the head of the musculoskeletal unit in the department of diagnostic imaging at Sheba Medical Center and is also the head of the department of radiology at Sackler School of Medicine of the Tel Aviv University in Israel. The majority of her research projects are in the field of spondyloarthritis, where she is also connected with other researchers from Germany, Denmark, Canada, the UK, and more. Her research is mainly dedicated to the characterization of the radiographic aspects of sacroiliac joints and the spine in spondyloarthritis and its differential diagnoses. Dr. Eshed is an active member of the ASAS group, ESSR arthritis subcommittee, EULAR arthritis subcommittee, and the Israeli radiological society.

He is a practicing MSK Radiologist at Clínica DAPI and an adjunct professor at the Federal University of Paraná, Brasil, where he graduated with a degree in medicine. He completed a research fellowship with Dr. Donald Resnick at the University of California, San Diego and a PhD at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is interested in all areas of MSK imaging, with emphasis on sports imaging and rheumatology. He is also very involved in MSK education, sustaining one of the most popular MSK websites in Brazil, www.radiologiaortopedica.com , where he shares cutting-edge content in the field.

Dr Sabrina Veras is a practicing radiologist at Clínica Felippe Mattoso, where she is also involved with education coordinating the fellowship program. She graduated with a degree in medicine from the Federal University of Piaui and completed a medical residency in radiology and a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at Santa Casa de São Paulo. She attended an observing fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at Roger Salengro Hospital, in Lille, France. She is co-author of book chapters on MSK radiology. Since 2019 she has been one of the coordinators of the Musculoskeletal Imaging Group of the Radiology Society of Rio de Janeiro and since 2013 she has been coordinating the monthly Musculoskeletal Imaging meeting of Rio de Janeiro`s Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Sergio Lopes Viana is a practicing musculoskeletal radiologist at the Hospital da Criança de Brasília (Brasília Children’s Hospital) in Brasília, Brazil, with a particular interest in rheumatology, pediatric musculoskeletal imaging, and articular injuries, also being a full member of the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging. He graduated with a degree in Medicine from the Universidade Federal do Piauí (Teresina, Brazil) in 1995 and completed residencies in Internal Medicine at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil, 1997) and in Radiology at the Hospital de Base do Distrito Federal (Brasília, Brazil, 2000). He co-authored the books “Diagnóstico por imagem em reumatologia” (Guanabara-Koogan, 2007) and “Joint imaging in childhood and adolescence” (Springer, 2013 [1st ed] and 2019 [2nd ed]). His publications also include five book chapters and dozens of articles published in Brazil and abroad. He has also lectured extensively on musculoskeletal imaging as a guest speaker throughout Brazil.

She is a practicing musculoskeletal radiologist at HCOR and Teleimagem in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she trained during her clinical musculoskeletal fellowship. She is also a former research fellow at NYU and a member of several radiology societies in Brazil. Dr. Yuranga Weerakkody is an internationally renowned radiologist with sub-specialty interests and expertise in thoracic imaging. Having completed his core radiology training in New Zealand and Australia, he has undertaken further subspecialist thoracic imaging training within Australasia as well as in France (sponsored by ESR) and in the United Kingdom.
