This lecture provides a streamlined review of the airway tree—from the trachea to the segmental bronchi—followed by a concise overview of right- and left-lung lobar anatomy as visualized on CT and PET/CT. Key anatomic markers, including the carina, major fissures, and the “whale sign,” are used to establish reliable orientation. The session concludes with normal versus abnormal patterns of FDG uptake in the lung parenchyma and thresholds that suggest underlying pathology.

• Identify the trachea, carina, and major bronchial divisions and recognize imaging landmarks used for airway orientation.
• Differentiate the lobar and segmental branching patterns of the right and left lungs, including key fissural boundaries.
• Describe the organization of the basal segments and apply common schemas (e.g., MALP) during interpretation.
• Recognize normal physiologic FDG appearance in lung parenchyma and understand SUV thresholds that indicate abnormal uptake.
