Remote Learning: BerlinCaseViewer Streaming Live
Due to the current situation regarding the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) we are facing certain constraints in public life. Legislators took steps to protect people, and the measures introduced call for solidarity – at a distance.
The aim of for instance curfews is to limit the number of people infected with COVID-19. Taking its natural course, the virus would lead otherwise to an exponential increase in cases. Graphics have illustrated this pointedly with a curve symbolizing the near-collapse of the healthcare system. By staying home we step in to #FlattenTheCurve.
Medical Training Courses Are Also Affected
Medical personnel is needed in practices and hospitals, and therefore exempt from social distancing. Especially people suffering from acute or chronic illnesses are depending on ongoing medical care.
But medical teaching drew to a halt. Physiotherapy and ergotherapy practices are closed as well. And the corona crisis also led to medical training courses and conferences being canceled. Still many people working in the healthcare sector outside of nursing and immediate care wish to bridge the waiting in a meaningful way until institutions reopen.
Online MRI Workshop For Rheumatologists
An MRI workshop for rheumatologists, sponsored by Novartis Deutschland GmbH, scheduled for April 1st in Berlin, will now be held online. To this end, we modified the BerlinCaseViewer web app to offer the same interactive learning experience as participants usually would enjoy with iPads and the BerlinCaseViewer App on-site.
Reverting to a video conferencing tool such as Zoom, Skype or Google Hangouts the rheumatologist Denis Poddubnyy and the radiologist Kay G. Hermann (both Charité Berlin) will convey what there is to know about diagnosis and treatment of axial spondyloarthritis. The online course participants have the chance to work on cases themselves, interpreting medical images and answering questions.
Anticipating More Online Workshops
Based on the feedback gathered from the attendees a discussion between the experts and the online participants will take place. The now scheduled online workshop will serve as trial for many video conferences to come, with the BerlinCaseViewer enabling remote medical learning. An online course on multiple sclerosis is for instance already being planned.
Please take care of yourself and others, and #StayHome. In the meantime feel free to explore the possibilities of the BerlinCaseViewer, or just enjoy winding down for a bit.
