Free Online Course on World Arthritis Day 2023: Understanding Imaging of Arthritis
Every year, on October 12th, World Arthritis Day (WAD) is held to raise global awareness about rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, often referred to as RMDs. With about 200 of these conditions, some still relatively unknown, this year’s World Arthritis Day is themed “Living With an RMD at all stages of life.” It places a strong emphasis on highlighting patients’ experiences and the progression of these diseases.
To explore the various presentations of RMDs and their impact on patients’ lives, we have carefully selected intriguing cases. In our free online course, you’ll have the opportunity to delve deeper into a select group of arthritides, while distinguished experts in their respective fields share the latest discoveries in diagnostics and research.
Join Us for a Free Online Course via Zoom
In alignment with the spirit of #WorldArthritisDay, we are excited to offer a free online course titled “Understanding Imaging of Arthritis.” This course (🇬🇧) is specially crafted to empower medical professionals like you with the expertise required to identify various forms of arthritis through imaging. Join us online to learn about up-to-date aspects of imaging in rheumatology, such as gender-specific analysis of the sacroiliac joints, diabetic foot arthropathy, and the use of artificial intelligence.
Take a sneak peek at the agenda below.

About the Experts
Katharina Ziegeler: MSK Radiologist
Katharina Ziegeler is a distinguished radiologist currently affiliated with Rheumazentrum Ruhrgebiet, Herne, Germany. Her research is centered on advancing our understanding of rheumatic diseases through medical imaging, with a specific emphasis on exploring the impact of anatomical variations and gender-specific differences at the sacroiliac joints. Her work delves into how these variations influence the development and progression of both degenerative and inflammatory diseases. This vital research has profound implications for diagnosing and managing these conditions effectively. Her dedication to this domain is underscored by her postdoctoral thesis.
Additionally, Katharina is actively engaged in the realm of crystal arthropathies, with a particular interest in calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD). Her expertise in applying innovative imaging techniques to crystal arthropathies adds a significant dimension to our understanding of these conditions.
Denis Poddubnyy: Rheumatologist
Denis Poddubnyy is a renowned expert in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) who actively explores the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in rheumatology. As the Head of Rheumatology at Charité — Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Denis’s expertise extends beyond traditional boundaries.
Denis’s unique perspective comes from his dual role as an axSpA specialist and an AI enthusiast. He brings a practical understanding of AI to the table. With this hands-on experience, his insights are valuable for both clinicians and researchers.
During the event, Denis will explore the exciting intersection of AI and rheumatology, highlighting its potential to transform diagnosis and treatment.
Marlena Jbara: MSK Radiologist
We are delighted to have Marlena Jbara join our event. She is an experienced MSK specialist from Florida, with a focus on foot disorders. Marlena’s expertise extends to diabetes-related arthritis, specifically Neurogenic Arthropathy or Charcot Joint — that proves the importance of proactive management. Only in this manner, it is possible to prevent this form of diabetes-related arthritis.
Her lifelong dedication to medical education has empowered healthcare professionals, including podiatrists, foot and ankle surgeons, and radiology, podiatry, orthopedic, and emergency medicine residents. Through her work, they learn to utilize imaging for patient care.
Expert Knowledge for You and the Opportunity to Ask Questions
At our free online course for World Arthritis Day (WAD) you can study the selected cases in detail on your own device using the BerlinCaseViewer. Prepare yourself now and download the BCV app right away.
The Radiologist Kay G. Hermann and the online editor Eva Reidemeister are eagerly looking forward to your participation. They will both guide you through the approximately one-hour event and moderate the Q&A session after each lecture, where you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions. We will be recording the event for you to reaccess it whenever you’d like.
